GUIDE / STRAIGHT ANSWER
What should I fix first on my Google Business Profile?
Check the real business information and customer journey before adding more posts. An inaccurate number or irrelevant link can waste an appearance in Maps.
The short answer
Begin with eligibility and verification, then check the real trading name, appropriate category, hours, contact details, services, photos and website destination. Record the starting position and interactions before changing anything. Google My Business is the former name of Google Business Profile.
What to check first
Use these checks to identify the problem before buying work or changing the setup.
- ✓Eligible business and correct ownership
- ✓Accurate services, hours and contact information
- ✓Approved photos that show the real work
- ✓A website link that answers the service enquiry
Do a customer pass first
Find the business by name, open its profile on a phone and inspect the visible details. Is the number current? Are the opening hours believable? Does the website link go to the page a customer expects? Note corrections before starting a cosmetic rewrite.
Match the category to the business
Use the most appropriate available category for the core activity and relevant additional categories only where justified. Keep the real trading name rather than adding a shopping list of services and towns. Record changes so you can understand what was edited later.
Make the proof current and specific
Ask for approved photographs of work, people, premises or the service process where appropriate. A useful caption can explain the work without making unsupported claims. Ask customers for honest reviews consistently; do not turn the process into a reward for saying something positive.
Keep access under control
The owner should retain primary control and give the person doing the work suitable management access. Keep a note of who can edit the listing. The first deliverable can be a correction log and measurement baseline, not a claim that ranking has already improved.
Apply this to your business
Tell Graeme what you sell, where customers are and where the journey breaks. The next step is a scoped conversation about local seo and google maps support, not an automatic package of unrelated services.

Short, honest answers.
Does filling every field guarantee ranking?+
No. Correct information helps customers and relevance; Google also considers distance and prominence.
Should I post every day?+
Useful updates can inform customers, but daily posting is not a substitute for accurate details, relevant services and real proof. Do not promise a ranking benefit from a posting frequency.
