GUIDE / STRAIGHT ANSWER

Why are my Google Ads leads low quality?

Low-quality leads usually begin with the wrong search, area, promise or conversion goal—or with a form that makes it too easy for the wrong person to look like success.

One practical question. One straight answer.

The useful answer

Trace each poor lead back to its search term, campaign, location, advert and landing page. Classify why it was unsuitable. Then fix the repeated cause and feed qualified or converted lead outcomes back into measurement where appropriate.

01

What to check first

The right decision depends on a few commercial facts. Work through these before changing budget or buying another service.

  • Search term and matched keyword
  • User location and requested service area
  • What the advert promised
  • Whether the form qualifies the need
  • Which leads became sales
02

Classify the bad lead before changing the account

“Poor quality” can mean the wrong service, wrong location, unaffordable budget, spam, existing customer, supplier or a genuine prospect the business failed to reach. Each cause needs a different fix. A broad label encourages random changes.

03

Trace the full route

Use the search terms report, location information and conversion details to connect the enquiry to what happened before it. Check whether the advert or page encouraged the misunderstanding. Review recordings or CRM notes only with appropriate privacy and consent controls.

  • Search intent
  • Geography
  • Advert promise
  • Page and form
  • Response and qualification
04

Stop optimising for every form equally

If bidding treats a spam form and a booked customer as identical primary conversions, the system lacks the outcome needed to prefer better opportunities. Where practical, import qualified and converted lead outcomes using an appropriate first-party data setup.

05

Protect conversion rate without hiding the offer

Add only the qualification that changes the decision: service type, location, timescale or minimum project fit. Do not build a twenty-question obstacle course. Clear pricing context or suitability language can discourage poor fits before they submit.

06

What I would check in your account

If you share what the business sells, where customers are and what is not working, I can inspect the actual route from search to enquiry and tell you the first thing I would improve. If there is no sensible paid-search opportunity, I will say so.

Common questions

Short, honest answers.

Will adding more form fields improve lead quality?

Sometimes, but it can also reduce good enquiries. Add fields only when the answer genuinely affects suitability or follow-up.

Should I optimise for qualified leads?

Where data quality, volume, consent and the technical setup support it, qualified or converted lead outcomes are more useful than treating every submission equally.

Are broad-match keywords always the cause?

No. Match type can contribute, but location settings, goals, advert wording, the page and lead handling can all produce poor-quality outcomes.
